"A 50/50 Project"
By Lee Lannom, Video Producer

After several years in the audio recording world, it seemed like a natural progression to move into video production. All of the mixing software packages that I was familiar with unknowingly trained me to transfer my GUI skills to my current video editing NLE. Of course, video capture opened up a whole new box of challenges as well as new opportunities for professional growth and accomplishments.HSF Acoustics Soundproofing Foam

Ignoring the seemingly vast technical differences between audio and video, they both share similar metrics such as balance, gain, depth, composing, message, and pace. In today's media savvy world, projects with the best of all of these metrics "cut through the mix" and rise to the top. When it comes down to it, it's about quality, or at least I think it should be.

There are probably some who would like to teach me a thing or two about the visual side of video production but that's not what this short article is about. What happened to the audio? It's like some of us (video producers) are ignoring it. Video and film production is many things but at its core it is 50% video and 50% audio. Audio professionals spend lots of time and money tuning their studios via design, layout, and acoustic treatment to try to achieve one common goal - produce incredible audio. Shouldn't video professionals feel the same way? It's a no brainer to focus on the visual side of video production but we can't forget the audio.HSF Acoustics Soundproofing Foam

Along with a video camera, shotgun mic, lighting kit, and a good script, we need to make some effort to add edit suite acoustics to our list of professional necessities. Installing HSF Acoustics treatment foam is one way to improve our audio for video, including on-location sound, film score composition, voiceovers, and the final mix down.

Never forget this very important fact. A video project is made up of two elements, video and audio. One without the other is a doomed project.
